Mrs. Amrit Marbaniang Burrett
Mrs. Amrit Marbaniang Burrett, hailing from Meghalaya, embraces a matriarchal culture that emphasizes empowering women by creating a more inclusive and opportunity-rich environment. Her open-minded approach influences her parenting, work, and various endeavors.
Mrs. Burrett has a diverse career spanning media, advertising, hospitality, and academia. Her holistic experiences and flexible mindset equip her to face challenges with a fresh perspective and positive attitude. Her heart is dedicated to the people and crafts of the hills.
Amrit Burrett's work, primarily in the Uttarakhand region, reflects a commitment to area-wide empowerment before gender-centric issues. She believes that a household thrives when everyone's work is appreciated, challenging traditional gender dynamics.
Project Purkul, initiated by Mrs. Burrett, aims to provide an independent space for women to generate income through their crafts. The focus is on empowering not only the artisans but also their families and the entire community. The project leverages branding and marketing tools to elevate local handicrafts, emphasizing collaboration for a stronger impact.
Sandeep Puran Singh
Sandeep Puran Singh studied at Jawahar Lal Nehru University’s School of Languages before he trained in Public Speaking and Personality Development from the Indo-American Society, Mumbai. He is worked on a independent survey and research in Organic Farming, Forest Conversation, Eco-Development and Joint Protected Area Management and also studied Child Development and Education. He is currently the Project Environment Incharge at Dehradun Hills Academy in Dehradun, the Coordinator at SUSWA (Sustainable Use of Soil Water & Air) an NGO based on the northern boundary of Rajaji National Park, creating Joint Protected Area Management and Conservation Education Program and Member, Tiger Link, an international NGO based in Delhi working with Tigers and their habitats. He has written numerous short stories, poems and essays on various subjects that have been published in magazines and newspapers of Uttarakhand. He currently works as the Director, Cedar training as a motivational speaker and trainer.
Khalid Alawneh
Khalid has co-founded Project Purkul, Himagaman, and Project Innovation. Himagaman focuses on advancing eco-tourism and tackling the issue of Village Migration in Uttarakhand by providing an income source in the villages. Project Innovation works on adopting rural schools to provide an innovative curriculum and programme; the objective being to change and develop the education system with innovative ideas in turn working on the overall development of the children studying in these schools. His most recent work is on Project Purkul, a handicrafts brand that was founded, sustained and fueled by the women of the region. It is a social-entrepreneurship project, with the objective to create opportunities for sustainable income for the women of Purkul village.
Sanghamitra Ghosh
Sanghamitra Ghosh completed her schooling from Woodstock School, Mussoorie and went on to do a Bachelors of Mass Media and MBA in Communication Management specialising in Advertising. Six years of work experience include working for several non-profit organisations in various capacities, setting up her hand block printing studio and brand, Nilam, and working in the hospitality field.
